AFTERS is Castlehaven’s new after-school cooking and healthy eating programme for children, young people and families in Camden.

Running throughout the year in our Community Kitchen, the project is designed to help participants develop practical cooking skills, learn about healthy eating, and enjoy nutritious meals together in a safe and welcoming environment.

The AFTERS programme runs throughout the week and offers a variety of opportunities for children and families to get involved:

  • Tuesdays are dedicated to children aged 8–13, with hands-on cooking sessions that build confidence, food awareness and independence in a supportive group setting.

  • Wednesdays are family cooking sessions, where children and their parents or carers cook, learn, and share meals together, helping to strengthen bonds and develop life skills across generations.

  • Thursdays feature a free hot meal evening for children and families, prepared by our incredible in-house chef, Milon. These shared meals create a welcoming space for families to enjoy nutritious food and connect with others in the community.

Led by a qualified cooking teacher, Luvain, AFTERS aims to support over 200 children and families, particularly those facing food poverty or referred through local support networks.

It forms part of Castlehaven’s wider children and young people’s programme, which promotes healthy lifestyles, positive relationships, and accessible learning outside of school.
