Our Environmental Initiatives

At Castlehaven, our Environmental Project is more than just a park, it’s a thriving space where nature, community, and sustainability come together. We’re dedicated to strengthening local connections by fostering collaboration in our green spaces, enhancing biodiversity through eco-friendly planting, raising climate awareness, and promoting well-being through food-growing initiatives and outdoor activities that support both physical and mental health.

We’re also proud to share that, for two consecutive years, we’ve received the Green Care Quality Mark from Social Farms & Gardens. This recognition highlights the positive impact of our environmental efforts on community well-being and reaffirms our commitment to maintaining high standards in creating inclusive, sustainable spaces for all.

Elm Haven

Our Community Park, the largest green space in Camden Town, features an edible garden, horticulture hub, pollinator garden, and diverse trees, including fruit trees.

Just 10 minutes from our main campus, we also manage another growing space, Elm Haven, where passionate volunteers cultivate herbs, fruits, and vegetables, and recently chillies, strawberries, and sweet potatoes.

While strolling through the park and Elm Haven, you might not realise the year-round effort that goes into maintaining these spaces. Behind the scenes, our Environmental Team and passionate volunteers dedicate countless hours to planting, pruning, composting, and caring for every tree, flower, and vegetable. Their hard work ensures these green spaces remain not only beautiful,  but also a welcoming hub for nature, food growing, and community connection.

Our Community Climate Initiatives

Beyond our Community Park and growing spaces, we’re cultivating climate awareness and action. Recently, we hosted our first Climate Café, a welcoming space for open discussions on environmental issues. These gatherings will now take place monthly in our Community Hub on the second Friday of each month from 2–4 pm.

We also launched an Environmental Film season at our Community Cinema in Clarence Hall, screening thought-provoking films like 2040, Rooted: Growing a Local Food System, No Impact Man, and Woman at War. Partnering with Transition Kentish Town, Ecocounts, and Islington Climate Centre, we hosted Q&A’s after the films to spark meaningful conversations around climate change.

Looking ahead, we’re dedicated to making Castlehaven, a vibrant hub for community-driven environmental action. Whether it’s through planting biodiversity-rich greenery, running sustainable living workshops, offering free environmental education for schools, or promoting mental well-being through outdoor activities, we’re working together to create a greener, healthier future.
