A climate café is an inclusive space for people to talk about climate change over a cuppa and a biscuit. It is a relaxed way to have conversations about the environment. Other climate cafés have been popping up across the country, successfully bringing together lots of people with different levels of climate awareness. Whether you are anxious about what the future holds or are curious to learn more about climate change, you’re welcome at our first climate café.

We know many people feel anxious about climate change and uncertain about what to do, with 66% of people in the UK expressing concern.

Many young people feel helpless with 20% of 16–24-year-olds thinking about having less children than they would have done. By having informal conversations with local people, you might feel a sense of community that can help reduce your climate anxiety. We invite anyone feeling this way to come and share their worries.

As part of our climate café, we’ll be hosting some short environmental films to provide some climate conversation starters. Even if you think you have no knowledge of climate change, just by living in London you’ll have been impacted by it in ways you might not have realised.

For example, 2022 was the first year on record where we saw temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. This wouldn’t have happened without man-made global warming.

If you’re feeling scared about the health of our planet, there are resources out there to help. Spending time in nature can deepen your connection to the environment, and talking to like-minded people can remind you that you’re not alone. For more support, visit Friends of the Earth or Greenpeace.
