This June, our Environmental Team is hosting a full month of free nature-based activities for all ages, offering plenty of ways to connect with the outdoors, the environment, and your community.

Alongside our popular weekly Community Gardening Sessions, Women’s Gardening, and Nature Crafting Sessions,  we’ll also be celebrating a double-whammy of Great Big Green Week (Saturday 7th – Sunday 15th June) and London Climate Action Week (Saturday 21st – Sunday 29th June) with even more inspiring events, trips and workshops throughout the month. The Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest celebration of community action on climate and nature. We’re proud to join in with a series of free events that bring people together to learn, grow, and care for our environment.

Drop-In Citizen Science

Monday 9th June | 2:00 – 4:00 pm

To kick off Great Big Green Week, join our resident biodiversity guide Ollie for a nature walk in the park! Discover urban wildlife, learn to spot local bugs and plants, and explore how to identify different species. All ages welcome – meet in our main community building.

Litter Picking Walk

Tuesday 10th June | 2:00 – 4:00 pm

Join us for a litter-picking walk through Camden Town as part of our role as a Cleanup Hub with Cleanup Hub, the Canal & River Trust, and generously supported by BNP Paribas, we’ll help keep the area clean with our extra-long pickers. Meet at our main community building.

Climate Café

Monday 9th June | 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Every month, on the second Friday, we hold our regular climate cafe in our Community Kitchen. It’s basically a chance for people to chat about all things environmental in a welcoming and inclusive space. Our climate café is open to everyone, and there will be snacks and refreshments available.

Community Cinema: WALL-E

Saturday 14th June | 2:00 – 4:00 pm

To finish our full week of festivities celebrating our environment, we’ll be screening WALL-E in our community cinema in Clarence Hall (NW1 8RN). This is a family-friendly event, and there will be refreshments available. Please come on down, and help us round off our busy week with an enjoyable film for all ages! 

If one full week of activities wasn’t enough, we’re also taking part in London Climate Action Week, now in its seventh year and the largest city-wide climate festival in Europe. Each year, more than 45,000 people take part in events aimed at tackling the climate crisis and accelerating action.

As part of this, we’re proud to highlight Community Climate Action by hosting six dedicated sessions here at Castlehaven from Saturday 21st June to Friday 27th June.

Climate Fresk

Saturday 21st June | 1:00 – 4:00 pm

If you’re new to ‘Climate Fresk’, it’s a simple, fun, and interactive three-hour workshop where you explore climate change in groups. Happening in our Community Association building (23 Castlehaven Rd, NW1 8RU). Email environmentalteam@castlehaven.org.uk to join.

Pizza Making in Our Cob Oven

Tuesday 24th June | 12:00 – 3:00 pm

Join us for handmade pizzas from our cob oven at the peaceful Horticulture Hub (Hartland Road, NW1 8RG), surrounded by greenery. Relax by the greenhouse, enjoy a slice, and soak up the calm. All ages welcome. Email environmentalteam@castlehaven.org.uk to join.

Electronics Repairs at Camden Fixing Factory

We’re teaming up with Camden Fixing Factory  to offer free repairs for small electronics. Bring items like toasters, kettles, lamps, laptops, or radios, expert volunteers will do their best to fix them for free. No booking needed, just drop in at 7 Buck Street, NW1 8NJ. Textile Upcycling Workshop

Monday 27th June | 2:00 – 4:00 pm

Join our resident art tutor Maryam for a hands-on textile upcycling workshop in our Community Hub (21 Castlehaven Road). Learn sustainable arts and crafts techniques while giving old fabrics new life in a fun, creative session.
