On Thursday 2nd July Castlehaven Community Association welcomed a special guest: Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer. The Local MP got the opportunity to tour our 4 acre site, visiting the Community Park, Horticulture Hub and Sports Pitch. Whilst touring the Horticulture Hub, Keir planted a tomato and is keen to track its progress as they are one of his favourite fruits. The visit culminated in a meet and greet with our food bank volunteers. This amazing group of people work tirelessly every Thursday, assembling and delivering hundreds of food parcels to those most in need. Keir expressed gratitude to everyone involved and listened to concerns regarding the growing problem of food insecurity in Camden. CCA CEO Tricia Richards discussed this new service with Keir, noting how “he was impressed with our food bank and was concerned when he found out that in our first month we have been providing over 300 individuals on a weekly basis with emergency food”.
Keir was very thankful about the invite, here is what he had to say about the visit: “Thank you for inviting me today, and thank you for your brilliant community support. Looking forward to some ripe tomatoes and another game of football at Castlehaven as soon as we can”.
We're looking forward to collaborating with the Labour Leader in the future, as it’s imperative that local charities such as Castlehaven are supported by their representative in Westminster.
Demand for our food bank is constantly increasing and we still need donations. Please help us #FeedTheCommunity by donating here: Castlehaven Food Bank Appeal.
