People of Castlehaven: Sharin Sultana

People of Castlehaven: Sharin Sultana

 Tue, January 14, 2020

Castlehaven is a special place because of the wonderful people who use our services and the tireless work of our staff and volunteers. Everyone has a story to tell and we want to hear yours.

In this month’s People of Castlehaven we’ll be hearing Active Family Outreach Worker Sharin Sultana’s story.

You may have seen Sharin around Camden advertising our huge array of services and activities. As a mother Sharin was attracted to Castlehaven because of the “amazing work they do helping local families”, and it seemed liked a “perfect fit” after spending 8 years out of work raising a family.

Sharin wasn’t just looking for a role that brought in an income, she wanted to have a positive impact on her local community and its families. Naturally nervous at first Sharin claims the “friendly” staff team made her feel “at home” straight away.

Sharin made an early observation that our services could be reaching more BME communities. We are incredibly proud of Sharin's outreach into the local community -  in the first half of 2019 we saw a 142% increase in service users, including a 29% increase in BME attendees to our family activities.

When asked to pick out her proudest moment at Castlehaven, Sharin chuckles and highlights her “skills of persuasion” during WinterFSET that resulted in 6 people entering a mince pie eating contest.
