Castlehaven and Lockdown 2.0

Castlehaven and Lockdown 2.0

 Thu, November 05, 2020

Today we are closing the Community Centre and Sports Pitch due to government guidance regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. This action brings us great sadness as we have loved supporting the community from our Camden home since reopening the building in September. We adapted during the previous lockdown, so we are in a brilliant position to help local people via our extensive list of services.

Our food bank will continue to feed people living in the Camden Town & Primrose Hill ward that have been adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. We have fed thousands of people since the service’s inception in June. Please help us feed the community by donating to our appeal. We recently increased the target to £10,000 as we predict a new lockdown will create further food insecurity in the area. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, you are supporting struggling people during a very difficulty time.

We are hosting a plethora of activities online for our beloved Ageactivity 60+ members and the wider community. If you are over 60 and fancy trying something new why don’t you join our AA 60+ project. For just £15 per year you will gain access to a huge selection of classes including ballroom dancing, chi kung, arts & crafts and many more. The AA60+ team regularly check in with their members, making sure they have access to essential supplies and services during lockdown. We are committed to tackling social isolation amongst Camden’s older population. To apply for membership email or call 0207 692 2238.

Our online gardening zoomshops have proved extremely popular and will continue until the end of the year.  Lockdown is the perfect time to explore new hobbies, so why not try gardening which is proven to improve mental health. We are also moving our Chess Club online and will now be for younger people aged 8-13. Chess is brilliant for exercising the brain. Have a look at our calendar to see if we have the activity for you!

Our dedicated gardening team and volunteers shall continue to maintain Camden Town’s largest park during lockdown. Our green spaces are there for the community, and we are extremely proud of the work we have done to improve the local environment. Please explore our Community Park during lockdown, you will find a picturesque spot with thriving biodiversity.

Future events include WinterFEST 2020. This year’s edition will be online and jam packed with festive fun for people of all ages. There will be a huge selection of activities and performances, there is even rumours of a special guest from the North Pole. Regularly check our website and social media for more information on this event.

We will always endeavor to support those in need, so if we haven’t outlined a service for you, we can still help. Call us on 020 7485 3386 or email and we can signpost you to other local services and organisations.

Stay safe and healthy.
