Ageactivity 60+ During Lockdown

Ageactivity 60+ During Lockdown

 Fri, April 17, 2020

The Ageactivity 60+ team have been working tirelessly, calling every single member to check on their wellbeing, asses their individual needs and offer support in every way we can. In total 285 first calls have been made, which was a huge job as each conversation on average lasted 20 minutes and in some instances over an hour. The first thing we were trying to ascertain was access to food and medication, then establish each member’s support network. This has enabled us to dictate the level of assistance we need to provide going forward.

After the initial round of calls we identified 49 members that require weekly check-ins, this is because they either live alone, are highly vulnerable and/or need help to get food and medication. We decided we would call the rest of our members every fortnight or so to stay in touch and check if they are still doing okay.

Some of our conversations have resulted in us signposting and referring our most vulnerable members to organisations that can help them further. We have linked up individuals to foodbanks, social services and wellbeing charities who are all doing a fantastic job supporting the community.

In addition to our phone calls we have been sending weekly text messages and bi-weekly e-bulletins. These are packed with helpful information regarding local charities, fun tips to combat boredom and wellbeing advice. Some of our tutors have even provided online classes and simple exercises to do at home which have been thoroughly enjoyed by all. Here are a couple of heartwarming quotes from members regarding our recent services.

“It's very comforting, these calls, when you don't have a family. I hate asking for anything but I know you girls are so kind that if I was in dire straits, I could call you”.

“I can honestly say that speaking to you has made my day! Thank you so much, I'm very grateful. It has helped to talk rather than have the worries in my mind".

Our social media is also a good source for local news, information and unique lockdown activities. You can use the following links to access our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

We have enjoyed a lot of lovely chats with our members and sincerely miss their company. We cannot wait for the day Ageactivity 60+ resumes and we are able to see all your friendly faces again.

Our Ageactivity 60+ team are not just looking out for their members. If you or somebody you know is vulnerable, please get in touch and we’ll see how we can help.
