Ukraine Crisis: How You Can Help

Ukraine Crisis: How You Can Help

 Thu, March 03, 2022

As Russia continues their invasion of Ukraine, many of us are watching the awful events unfold, wondering what we can do to help.

Sometimes it feels like here in Camden, we are miles away from warzones and conflicts. But with refugees seeking safe homes in our community and the overall impact war can have on everyday people, it's important that we unite to show our support as a community and individuals.

Castlehaven has collated the following list of organisations and donation sites that you can contact to help those most in need at this unprecedented time:

  • • Sign This Petition

Freedom From Torture has created a signature asking for the British government to develop a comprehensive humanitarian response, remove clause 11 of the Nationality & Borders Bill and create a global resettlement programme to help bring a minimum of 10,000 refugees to safety. Sign the petition here.

  • • Write To Your Local MP

Email your local MP (ours is Keir Starmer), asking them to raise the issue in parliament and to pressure the government. Instructions on how to do this can be found here, and you can find a template email drafted by the Ukrainian Institue London here.

  • • Attend London Protests

Attending peaceful demonstrations can help to put pressure on the government to take action and is a visible way to show your support. In the last week, thousands have peacefully congregated in Trafalgar square with demonstrations planned for the rest of the week.

Follow Ukrainian Events London to keep up to date with planned protests.

Donate supplies

Local donation points are popping up all over London, collecting supplies to directly help Ukrainians impacted by the crisis.

Items in high demand include antiseptic wipes, masks, underwear, sanitary products, sleeping bags, thermal blankets and dry foods such as nuts, porridge and energy bars. This nearest collection point to Castlehaven is:

233 Willesden Lane, NW2 5RP

More information about collection items and timings here.

Give Funds

Global charities operating in the UK and Ukraine are appealing for funds to aid in this humanitarian crisis.

  • • Ukrainian Charities

Ukrainian charities, including Sunflower of Peace and United Help Ukraine, provide medical supplies, while Voices of Children helps children affected by the war in eastern Ukraine. Find a full list of charities to support here.

  • • UK Charities

Major UK organisations have launched campaigns, including UNICEF UK, the British Red Cross, Save the Children, and the Embassy of Ukraine in the UK. London Plus has a comprehensive list of London-based organisations to support.

  • • Grassroots Action

The Ukrainian Institute London has a list of organisations to support. Further fundraising appeals supporting refugees, disabled people and animal shelters have also been shared in this Linktree.

We do hope this information helps. If you have any suggestions to add to our list, or if you are part of an organisation that would like help in promoting your campaign, donation site or support services for those affected by the war in Ukraine, please email us at
